A few weeks ago I had a lovely medium-sized mocha from the coffee place just down the road. Spring ahead four hours and I’m feeling sick to my stomach, in bed, and downing glasses of water to try and get it out of my system. I felt tingle-y, anxious, and uppity. Caffeine allergy? I’m not sure. I feel the same way when I drink alcohol which I now avoid because I feel like shit the next day even after one drink. I guess it’s the tanins because both coffee, soda, and wine contain them but, I’m not entirely sure.
All I know is that Starbucks is going to be missing my business.
Ta for now.

… animal rights sounds like they’re about to get the right to vote. -Ellen DeGeneres
If Ellen, a vegan herself, isn’t familiar with the differing definitions of animal welfare and animals rights chances are a good portion of people out there aren’t familiar either. Here’s what you might have missed.
Animal Welfare: a human responsibility that encompasses all aspects of animal well-being, including proper housing, management, disease prevention and treatment, responsible care, humane handling, and, when necessary, humane euthansia.
Animal Rights: a philosophical view that animals have rights similar or the same as humans. True animal rights proponents believe that humans do not have the right to use animals at all. Animal rights proponents wish to ban all use of animals by humans.
If you get into an argument with a radical vegan and you mistakenly use one term when you meant the other a fair share of them will bite your head off.
Can vegans be concerned about welfare and not rights? Is this hypocritical?
Let me know your thoughts.

Since I’ve made the first leap in eliminating dairy milk from my diet I think it’s important to know WHY I made that decision. I’ll be upfront about the fact that I’ve never been a huge milk drinker so this wasn’t a particularly challenging transition for me. After discovering hazlenut almond flavoured Rice Milk which tastes so much better than cow’s milk I’m really not even tempted to go back. Also, I would like this site and my journey through this stuff to be a resource to others. So, without further adieu, some quotes that illustrate why I have decided to eliminate milk from my diet and why you might want to consider it. « Read the rest of this entry »
